Furnaces are somewhat different than heaters. A furnace is a enclosure in which energy in non thermal form (e.g. a fuel) is converted into heat, so the inside of the enclosure becomes very hot. A heater is an apparatus that heats or provides heat. In addition to mechanical furnace installations failure, there can also be subtle indications that furnace repair is needed, that the unit is actually broken but still appears to be functioning. If you hear unusual noises coming from your furnace, it may be a sign that it has difficulty igniting, has a loose belt, or has a worn out part that will soon break.

When a home stops heating well, the response of most homeowners is to raise the thermostat setting. The problem may be with an intermittent pilot ignition system, clogged air filter, or even leaky ductwork. If you notice that the pilot light is yellow, it may indicate the presence of carbon monoxide. In some cases your electric furnace might be heating air okay but the blower motor is not coming on to circulate the warm air. Check to see if the blower turns on when the thermostat signals the furnace to kick in. If it doesn’t, calling a furnace repairs professional may be your next step.
